FORT WAYNE, Ind. — In an unprecedented but safety-focused move, Fort Wayne FC announced today that all fans attending the club’s highly anticipated soft opening match on May 2 will be issued high-visibility safety vests and hard hats to wear throughout the event.
Team officials emphasized that the decision is rooted in safety, as the match will take place within an active construction environment. While the venue is operational for limited use, construction crews are still completing portions of the stadium, and unfinished elements remain visible throughout the facility.
“This is an exciting milestone for our club and our fans,” the organization said in a statement. “However, because the stadium is still an active construction site, we are taking every possible precaution to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance.”
Why the Safety Gear Is Necessary
According to the club, areas of the stadium may still contain:
- Unfinished structural components
- Temporary walkways and railings
- Construction materials and equipment staged nearby
- Uneven surfaces and incomplete flooring
- Ongoing work zones adjacent to fan areas
While no construction will take place during the match itself, these conditions present inherent risks that are not typically present at a fully completed sports venue.
Mandatory Liability Waiver for Entry
In addition to wearing the provided safety gear, all attendees will be required to sign a liability waiver prior to entering the stadium. The waiver will acknowledge the unfinished nature of the facility and state that Fort Wayne FC is not liable for injuries resulting from incomplete construction elements, materials, or other items still present around the stadium.
The club noted that signing the waiver will be a condition of entry, and fans who choose not to participate will not be admitted.

Despite the unusual requirements, Fort Wayne FC officials remain optimistic that the soft opening will be a memorable experience—one that symbolizes the club’s growth and the city’s investment in its future.
